2010 AAU Florida District Championships -- West Coast Qualifier
The Florida AAU regional qualifier will be held April 17 at River Ridge Middle/High School in New Port Richey, Florida. The top 16 athletes in each division will qualify here for the 2010 AAU Karate Super Regional Championships and National Qualifier on May 1st, hosted in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
It is a traditional tournament open to all karate styles. It is a very well-run event and if you have never been to a Florida AAU event you are missing out! We have lots of Isshinryu dojos and the competition is great. This would be a good one to try, but if you decide to attend and don't know the rules, ask us for help.
Registration is available online at http://www.tkafl.com/ to AAU members. If you're not yet a member of the AAU, you can sign up for that online too. More detail is in the PDF flyer below.
White gis are mandatory — no dojo or style patches are allowed, just the AAU patch, which goes over the heart. You can buy these at the event.
For youth competitors we do require certain headgear, which we will have at the ring. No footpads are allowed; all competitors have the option of wearing nothing on their feet and legs, or youth may wear shin and instep pads, while adults may wear shin pads only. You must wear the gloves required by the AAU, which we will sell at the event. If you plan on attending and need these, let us know so we can order extras. Of course mouthguards and cups are required.
The rules can be downloaded at the AAU web site. The flyer below includes directions and hotel info. We can help you if you have questions, too: use our contact form.
